Kellymom.com is a great resource if you are considering breastfeeding or have questions. A friend of mine who is a lactation consultant pointed me to this site in my third trimester, and having reviewed it before Evan's birth really helped me absorb all the info in the hospital, since I already had some framework.

Also, a great tool for tracking all kinds of baby activity and accomplishments is the Baby Center iphone app. It helps me track (and chart) how many minutes Evan fed on each breast, how many diapers (wet and dirty) he produced, etc. If the doctor asked how often he feeds, how long he feeds, etc., I have all that info at my fingertips, which is good, because I can barely keep any extraneous info in my brain. For the first week, I did all this tracking on paper, but it was incredibly cumbersome. The app is so much easier and probably more accurate, since it's easy to pause the feeding timer for burps and diaper changes. The app can also keep track of his height, weight, etc. It was well worth the $4.99 or whatever I paid for it.

He is wonderful, Beth, and so are you. They weren't kidding when they say kids will change your life - and you can only really appreciate it when you have them! I love to read about your discoveries!! It seems so long ago that I had my two babies and it was only 22 months ago that Ben was born!! Keep up the good work and good for you for sitting back and enjoying it.

Such words of wisdom ... and so soon! When we were in your shoes, neither Penny or I could even think straight, let alone write coherently.

This part in particular struck me as something I *would* have said, had I been able to conjure the insight and perspective:

"While there were a few times just after he was born that I was flashing forward to his high school graduation and wedding and freaking out, I now think about my life in two-hour chunks."

You're right, it actually is sort of refreshing how simple (!) a little one makes everything all of a sudden.
